Supreme Court of Victoria

HVAC Upgrade

Project Overview

Located in Melbourne’s legal precinct, the Supreme Court of Victoria is one of Australia’s most significant judicial institutions. The heritage-listed complex accommodates courtrooms, judicial chambers, administrative offices and public spaces, requiring reliable environmental control to support daily operations.

Premiair was engaged to upgrade ageing R22 HVAC systems, delivering modern, energy-efficient solutions that improved reliability, supported future compliance requirements and minimised disruption to building operations.

Project Challenge

The existing VRV air conditioning systems serving the Court of Appeal and Old High Court buildings had reached the end of their operational life and relied on the phased-out R22 refrigerant. The ageing systems were becoming increasingly difficult to maintain while no longer delivering the reliability, performance, and energy efficiency required for such a critical facility.

Adding to the complexity, all works needed to be undertaken within one of Melbourne’s most significant heritage-listed buildings, requiring careful planning and installation methods to preserve the integrity of the historic structure.

Our Solution

Premiair designed and delivered a complete turnkey HVAC upgrade, replacing the ageing systems with three new Daikin VRV systems along with multiple standalone air conditioning units across the site.

The new systems were selected to improve energy efficiency, enhance occupant comfort, increase system reliability, and provide a future-proof solution while maintaining the heritage character of the building.
